Beth Bathe
Bio:
From Strasburg PA, Beth Bathe’s representational paintings have been described by art critics as “evoking nostalgia, like that of an old sepia toned photograph, often with just touches of color.” Curiosity about the medium Beth works is often the first question of many viewers. Is it watercolor, is it oil? Beth’s answer: “somewhat both.” She works with Water Mixable Oil Colors in a limited palette, using brushes and unconventional tools. Beth holds a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and was a graphic designer for close to 40 years before painting full time. Beth crisscrosses the country, painting en plein air and participates or judges in up to ten high-profile juried and invitation national competitions a year. Beth has been featured several times in PleinAir Magazine, most recently in the August/September 2025 issue. She teaches throughout the country and internationally and was on faculty for Plein Air Convention 2025 and 2026. She holds many professional memberships including Signature status of American Society of Marine Artists ASMA and Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters. She is an Artist Ambassador for Royal Talens, North America for Cobra Oil paints and is a Dynasty Brush Brand Artist Specialist.
