Jose I. Ugas

Headshot Ugas 1

Bio:

Growing up in Miami, FL Jose Ugas has always been a constant explorer of the unknown and inspiring, leading to the influences of ritual, street art, and cultural discourse to greatly inform his work. Finding a passion for sculpture and self-reflective forms Ugas left Miami to attend the California College of the Arts in Oakland, CA where he would study under contemporary glass
sculptor Clifford Rainey. Expanding the themes of his work to transition and displacements, Ugas uses glass and other mediums to create a visual narrative of generational connectivity and separation. After returning to Miami, Ugas took up residency as the Director of Glass Casting at Benzaiten Center for Creative Arts in Lake Worth, FL, and worked alongside glass artist Robert Stern.
