Bio:

Born and raised in the vibrant city of Miami, Florida, my journey into the art world began with a sense of uncertainty about my future. Unlike many of my peers, I didn’t have a clear vision of what I wanted to be when I grew up. It wasn’t until I enrolled in my first art class during high school that my future began to take focus.

Under the guidance of my high school art teacher, I discovered a talent for artistic expression that I never knew I had. She not only taught me the fundamentals of art but also became a trusted mentor and lifelong friend. It was through her encouragement and guidance that I found my calling in art education.

After graduating from high school, I decided to further pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a focus on painting. Graduating in 2006, I was eager to continue my journey into the world of art education. This led me to pursue a master’s degree in art education, which I completed in 2009.

During the transition between my undergraduate and graduate studies, I was fortunate enough to secure a teaching position at South Miami Senior High School. Serving as a Magnet Fine Arts instructor, I found fulfillment in guiding and inspiring the next generation of artists, and seventeen years later I am proud to continue working at this wonderful institution. In this time, I also married my high school sweetheart and gave birth to my now 10-year-old son, Logan.

While teaching and parenting became my primary focus for a time, my own artistic aspirations never faded. Several years ago, a colleague helped me discover a passion for working En Plein Air. This reawakening of my artistic spirit led me to establish Liz Hunter Studio, Inc. and participate in a growing number of art festivals and exhibitions throughout South Florida.

Today, I find joy in both teaching and creating art, each complementing and enriching the other. As I continue to nurture young talents and explore my own artistic endeavors, I am grateful for the winding path that has brought me to where I am today and eagerly look forward to where this practice will take me next.
