Pat Crowley

Pat Crowley is an artist and educator whose work continues to evolve across canvas, sculpture, and in the classroom. Currently an art teacher and working studio artist, he creates and exhibits from The Hunt Club his Palm Beach Gardens studio, where he paints and sculpts in multiple media while mentoring the next generation of artists.

Crowley’s career spans decades at the highest levels of American visual journalism he served as an editorial cartoonist for the Palm Beach Post from 1979 to 1994, later becoming the Creative Director from 1995 to 2008. His political cartoons were nationally syndicated throughout the Copley News Service and appeared in hundreds of newspapers across the United States, as well as in Time, Newsweek, U.S. News & World Report and The New York Times.

In May of 1986 when The Palm Beach Post launched its daily opinion section, Crowley broke new ground in visual commentary, by producing full color editorial cartoons four to five days a week – rendered in India Inc watercolor and gouache – a first in daily journalism.

He later became a founding staff member, editorial cartoonist, and illustrator for The Hill newspaper in Washington, D.C. where he worked from 1994 to 2000 during the publication’s formative years covering national politics.

Beyond newspapers, Crawley has illustrated numerous magazine and feature stories, including lead artwork for The New York Times Sunday Week in Review. He was also a regular contributor to Palm Beach Life magazine for more than 20 years.

His illustration work extends to publishing, with more than a dozen books to his credit. He is currently writing and illustrating A George Washington Christmas – Battle of Trenton.

Today, Crawley’s creative life comes full circle – balancing teaching fine art and long form illustration – still driven by the same sharp eye and storytelling instinct that defined his award-winning career in editorial cartooning
