Bio:

was born in Caracas, Venezuela. Ever since I was a little girl, I was inspired by my amazing grandfather, who was an artist. I grew up “playing artist,” and then I went to art school in Caracas: Escuela de Artes Plasticas Christobal Rojas. I moved to the United States 40 years ago and got married. My whole life has been based on art and family. I see beauty and potential in everything around me; potential to create. Art has been the biggest blessing in my life. I have experience with almost all types of media; clay, paint, glass, and for the last 10 years, mostly clay. Basically anything I can create with. Clay allows me to connect and relate to people in their most vulnerable moments. It also allowed me to have a voice on many issues. My art has always been deeply connected with my spirit. It centers me through expression. It’s a process that the media and I go through at the same time. Lately I’ve been diving deeply into pre-Colombian ceramics and the cultures that shaped our continent long before modern borders existed. Learning from a professor who specializes in these ancestral artifacts has been transformative not just for my craft, but for my understanding of myself. Even though I was born in Venezuela and I’m not Indigenous, I carry pieces of many histories within me. That mix is part of what makes Latin America so powerful and beautiful: we are woven from many roots, and the more I learn about each one, the more clearly I see who I am. These ceramic pieces are part of that journey. Every shape, every symbol, every hour spent studying ancient techniques is a way of reconnecting with the land, with the stories that came before us, and with the cultures that continue to influence us
