Rokhaya Waring

Waring, Rokhaya Headshot

Bio:

Raised in Massachusetts with roots in France, Waring’s homeschool days included milking goats, playing violin, and camping across America. Foremost was daily drawing from nature, a practice established by her mother- once a student at Paris’s Ecole des Beaux Arts. This created vibrant memories and the foundation for her technique After graduating from Princeton University with a BA in Art History, she spent 20 years painting exclusively en plein air in Provence, believing that daily application was also the best way to learn and progress. Her early success led to a full-time, life-long commitment to painting. Waring has shown in over 200 juried and invitational shows in the US and abroad and has garnered awards in numerous Plein Air Events. In 2025 she was awarded Best of Show at NC Plein Air and Best of Show at Mountain Maryland Plein Air. Plein air painting is the way Waring began, often choosing to paint nature’s patterns: boats in a harbor, fields of flowers, moving clouds. Rather than a single focal point she prefers her work to be an experience of atmosphere, motion, harmony, and the passage of time. She currently lives in the Smoky Mountains of NC with her artist husband Alex Eisenzopf and their two whippets.
