Abstracting the Portrait

Days & Times:
Wednesdays - 1pm - 4pm
All Levels Welcome
395 Seabrook Road - Studio E

The main objective of this class is to learn how to explore making less representational figurative sculpture. The medium will be water-based clay.
Students will explore the unique properties of this medium using additive, subtractive, and constructive techniques. Working from a live model, they will create a “psychologicalfull body portrait of the model. The student will use abstracted forms to visually convey the feeling the model evokes upon the artist rather than a literal representation.
A previous class on sculpting the human head is suggested. Each student is expected to produce several finished pieces.
