Here’s your chance to simplify painting using the inventive and expressive power of color and shape. We will examine how great painters of the past use color and shape in such works as the dusty earth palette of Morandi’s bottles, the blues in Cezanne’s Mount St. Victoire, the intense color shapes of Matisse’s landscapes or still life paintings, and the symbolic color of Gauguin. Color harmonies, the temperature in colors, and the use of color as the light will be of major interest. Be prepared to deepen your understanding of the possibilities of painting!
