During this class, students will learn how to create functional hand-built vessels that feature your favorite furry friends! Techniques that will be explored include building with slabs, additive relief methods, and subtractive carving methods. Surfacing principles that will be discussed include functional vs. decorative surfaces, the importance of transparency/opacity, best practices of glazing/underglazing, cone numbers and firing, and the use of oxides/stains/washes to highlight texture. Test tiles are highly encouraged for experimentation with various surface methods. Students will aim to execute 2-3 finished vessels to be fired and glazed within the session. No hand-building or sculpting experience required, all levels welcome!
