Create a glass bowl or vase with a unique look that cannot be achieved with basic glass fusion. Students will learn and use their cutting skills in this 4-week class. “Glass toppers” will be cut and designed with glass frit, powders, and stringers in a variety of patterns to be fused and then cut again into specific shapes and sizes. The stacked arrangement of the glass will be placed into a prepared dam to contain it while fusing together in the kiln. Learn firing schedules and how glass will flow to stretch and create amazing designs in your art piece. Students will also learn to use different tools to cold work thick glass and how to prepare different molds for slumping and draping their glass. Some cutting skills are helpful but not necessary. Materials and firing schedules are supplied for this project, with additional materials and firing schedules available for purchase. Please wear closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothes, and an apron. Please email Carolyn with any questions at Carolyn@lighthousearts.org.
