Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of metalsmithing through instructor demonstrations, one-on-one instruction, and hands-on experience with hand tools, flex shafts, and torches. Each student will learn to design, pierce, drill, solder, and set a cabochon stone. Students will work with sterling silver, brass, and/or copper throughout this course and projects will include making rings, pendants, and/or earrings. Projects include a textured band ring with a handmade bezel setting, pasting an image to sheet metal and piercing it out with a jeweler’s saw to make a pendant, basic soldering including sweat soldering, and creating a necklace pendant using either a bezel or a prong setting.
