This class focuses on four essential tools for creating strong, expressive watercolor paintings: color, shape, value, and edges. Through demonstrations and guided practice, students will learn how these elements work together to create depth, clarity, and energy.

We will explore color by using warm and cool relationships to create mood and spatial depth. Shape will be simplified and connected to build clear, unified compositions. Value will be used to define form, volume, and light, giving structure to both urban and landscape scenes. Finally, we will work with edges, learning how to vary hard and soft transitions to create rhythm, focus, and movement.

This class is designed to help students move beyond copying what they see and instead build paintings that feel organized, expressive, and dynamic — with confidence in their design choices and a deeper understanding of how watercolor works.
