This 2-day workshop will include hand-building small ornamental jewelry and hanging ornaments that will be raku fired. The objective of the workshop is to introduce students to the possibilities and range of raku fired work. Students will design work that complements the alternative firing method and explore the many glaze options that raku offers.
Day one will begin with background information of raku and examples of raku jewelry. Then the students will hand-build small pieces that can be quickly dried and bisque fired at the end of Day 1. A discussion of glaze options will be offered as well.
Day two will begin with decoration and glazing and then firing work in the raku kiln. Students are encouraged to participate in the firing and operation of the kiln. Multiple firings will be possible on this second day.
All materials will be provided.
