Stone Carving

Days & Times:
January 10, January 11, and January 12 - 9am-4pm
Level:
Beginner to Advanced
Location:
395 Seabrook Road - Event Deck
Instructor:
  1. Beginners:
This is a hands-on workshop that will provide students familiarity with handheld carving tools such as the chisel and mallet, and the types of stones (alabaster) necessary for this process. Each student will learn techniques to visualize three-dimensionally and strengthen one’s craving skills by creating a mortar in all phases: roughing, refinement, finishing, and polishing. As a bonus, each student will be gifted a hand-carved pestle by Lucio to complement their new mortar.
  2. Experienced:
This advanced workshop is only for experienced students who have already taken a beginner’s course or who have their own experience with stone carving. The two-leveled workshop is held simultaneously. Lucio recommends arriving with a small personal project or reference images of an object that can be realized in the size of the Alabaster blocks that are provided (each stone roughly 10in sq with variety of dimensions) and with hand tools available.

All tools and materials will be provided. If you have your own tools, you are encouraged to bring them.
