Sun and Soy – sun print and soy wax batik on fabric
Days & Times:
Level:All Levels Welcome
Develop richly patterned fabrics while learning modified versions of traditional surface design techniques! Transparent textile pigments, modified soy wax “batik”, and a faux “sun-print” will transform plain fabric into original textiles that can be hung as works of art or used to create apparel, quilts, or home décor. Traditional and contemporary batik techniques such as stamping, drawing, and painting will be used to apply soy wax as a resist on the fabric, as well as layering colors and designs with the fabric paints. A second piece will be created by arranging interesting objects on fabric on which fluid fabric paint has been applied. As the paint dries on the fabric, the objects will leave an impression. Completed pieces can also be further embellished with printing, stenciling, or fabric markers. Participants are encouraged to experiment and explore the versatility of both techniques. No prior experience is necessary, but an understanding of color mixing is helpful.
