Narrative and sequential imagery has been used throughout history to imbue the visual arts with meaning.

From the single-panel cartoon to the multi-framed storyboard, The Art of Cartooning will look at the histories of illustration, picture book art, cartooning, comic book art, animation, and cinematic storyboards.

Starting with an image’s basic function to dispense information, this studio art class will explore storytelling, personal styles, drawing mediums, character development, and layout. These aspects will encourage the development of the narrative and emotional range required to create meaningful, illustrated short stories.

We will explore and develop the act of seeing and how to infuse that act with style and personality in our drawing. We will explore the myriad of drawing techniques and mediums. We will always work within the fundamental canon of the Formal Design Elements and solid compositional Principles.

This workshop is open to all skill levels. Talent is not required. Talent is NOT the barometer of success. Having a personal vision, the need for something to say, is what truly matters.
