In this class, students will learn to apply wax carving and construction methods to create a beautiful piece of jewelry in sterling silver. While using the wax, the class will focus on use of positive and negative space, surface texture, transferring images, experimental processes with natural objects (bugs, leaves, etc..), and converting wax weight to sterling silver. After the casting process, the class will go over finishing, polishing techniques. Students can use 50% scrap metal (old jewelry, failed projects, etc.) for casting and 50% new casting grain. Please see student material list for details on this method of recycling.
