Learn a variety of handbuilding construction techniques; pinch pots, coil, and slab construction. Create decorative pieces, functional pieces, representations, or abstract sculptures. Students will finish projects using a variety of glazing methods.

In this class, you’ll dive into the exciting world of sculptural paper creation, with a little bit of paper, glue and paint. Whether you envision crafting a fantasy figure, an intriguing animal, or a unique concept entirely your own, the possibilities are limitless. Through the manipulation of wire, paper materials, and found objects, you’ll have the chance to shape your vision into reality.

This class will delve into the realm of handbuilt vessels, with an emphasis on coil, slab, and surface decoration. We will build conventional forms (amphoras, moon jars, bottles) on a large scale. Decorative planters, mugs, and platters will also be covered. Students will build a personal visual vocabulary to develop works in a series. Some basic clay experience is preferred. Class provides 25lbs of clay.

This class will focus on Handbuilding with an emphasis on coil building and surface decoration. The students will explore building on a larger “monumental” scale, and develop their own visual narratives in clay. Each student will learn how to embellish the surface of their sculptures with colored slips, underglazes, sgraffito, and even painting. Some basic clay experience is preferred. Class provides 25lbs of clay.

The clay is your oyster! In this introductory Handbuilding class, students will embrace taking risks as they bring imagination and whimsy to everyday objects such as mugs, baskets, plates, and more! Coil, slab, and pinch methods will be covered, as well as decorative surface techniques. No handbuilding experience necessary.

This class provides an in-depth look at creating compelling figurative sculptures focusing on the portrait bust.  Reference photos are the responsibility of each student. The instructor will offer an approach to portraiture that focuses on anatomical structure, mapping, proportion, and capturing the individuality of each subject. Students will develop concepts through the incorporation of facial expressions, gestures, and thematic imagery.

This class will explore the process of sculpting a realistic animal portrait by utilizing reference photos. Reference photos are the responsibility of each student, either a pet or perspective animal image. The instuctor will offer an approach to animal portraiture that focuses on anatomical structure, proportion, and capturing the individuality of each animal.
