Build a deep & textured, vibrant, fabric collage that explodes out of its mat over the course of this four-week fiber art class. Starting with a blank canvas of fabric, we will use the latest products, tools & tricks of the trade to create one of a kind, hand-dyed, handsewn, seascapes & landscapes that teem with intricate, unique components. This class is for intermediate and advanced stitchers. Each student will leave with a matted, framed, ready to hang textile collage.

Once you know the basics, you can break the rules a little bit! Bring your imagination and learn how to increase the impact each stitch has upon your work in this freeform embroidery workshop. Stitch inconsistently, dynamically, irregularly, and do it on purpose! Maybe even add a little bling. This class is part study in line quality, using thread in lieu of pencil or pen, and part study in color theory, using different fibers of varying weight and value to achieve depth of field. For stitchers with some embroidery experience, each student will leave with a piece of original, handsewn, ready-to-hang, hoop art.

Explore ways of giving new life to fabric materials that have sentimental value, are part of your scrap pile, ripped apart, partially functional, something you inherited, etc. instead of adding to the landfills. We will rebuild and renew these materials into something with character that is personal, unique, and exciting! Demonstrations will include mending, fabric collage, piecework, and patches with the goal of a new item that can be used, whether on a bed, wall, a table, or even as simple clothing.
