This workshop is part of a series called ‘Marriage of Metal and Polymer Clay’. The focus of these workshops is to introduce polymer artists to a simple, cold connection metalsmithing skills that will allow them to take their work to the next level.
Links are a way to provide points of connections in the construction of your jewelry. Most commonly, they are thought of as connections in a necklace, but they can just as easily be used in earring, bracelets and even brooches.
This class focuses on making simple links combining polymer clay and wire. Some of the basics when working with wire and polymer will be covered. For the wire, this includes work hardening, straightening, forming and whether to add a patina and when. For the polymer, this includes color blends, simple veneers, how thick to work, and baking tips. The polymer technique used for the veneers is stripes. They are fun, fast and bold – using bright colors to make each piece sing!
This class is being offered virtually over two days. Each day is 2 hours long. It is a demo-based class meaning that each step in the project will be reviewed, demonstrated and discussed but the making time is on your own, homework will be assigned between class.
