Make space on your calendars and walls for Lighthouse ArtCenter’s 12th Annual Plein Air Festival, which will take place from March 2 - 8, 2025
This juried event brings a selection of the country’s top plein air painters to Tequesta for a week of outdoor painting. These artists, painting outdoors, or “en plein air,” will compete for over $15,000 in cash and prizes. The week kicks off with our Paint Out Competition at Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse. Join us daily at the ArtCenter Gallery to view and purchase the freshly painted work of our talented artists. Check out the free plein air painting demonstrations at picturesque locations across the area. On Friday, add to your art collection at our fabulous Collectors’ Party & Sale. Mix and mingle with the artists and fellow art enthusiasts while feasting on Lighthouse ArtCenter’s signature hors d’ oeuvres. All pieces are available to purchase, including competition pieces. Finish out the week on Saturday with our Small Works Sale and our Live Painting Event at the ArtCenter Gallery. Learn from the masters and enroll in one of our Plein Air Workshops offered before and after the festival.

Mary Garrish: Mary Garrish is a landscape painter known mostly for her seascapes and coastal scenes in oils. She also travels extensively and teacher in France and Italy. She started out in a career as an ENT surgeon and become enthralled with landscape painting through a number of Plein Air workshops with many great teachers such as Scott Christensen, Matt Smith, Quang Ho,. Mary was an artist in Residence at the Everglades National Park. You can see her videos on YouTube specifically on Art School Live or Streamline Publishing with Eric Rhodes. She considers herself a representational painter and is drawn to the ever changing atmosphere.
Mary Garrish will explain the 6 principles of design – line, shape, value, color, edges and texture. She will show you how she uses these to take a plein air painting or photo to design a larger studio painting. There will be multiple demos explaining these six principles and how to implement them. The course is designed to take you from thumbnail sketches to value studies and on to a finished painting.
