Docent
What is a “Docent”? The word is derived from the Latin word docēre, meaning to teach. A docent is a guide who leads observation and inquiry-based tours. Other words to describe a docent are: Host, Mentor, Facilitator and Educator. In the world of the Lighthouse ArtCenter, docents are responsible for tailoring tours of the various shows to the many different groups that come to visit our facility.
The Docent is also a student who attends all training sessions, and special workshops, as well as a guardian of the exhibitions. As the Lighthouse ArtCenter’s horizon is expanding, so are our duties to enrich and educate anyone who visits our center of enlightenment.
Responsibilities of a Docent: Our docents should be knowledgeable about the history of Lighthouse ArtCenter as well as the specific works currently hanging in the gallery spaces.
